Satisfy your sweet tooth with these spongy and delicious donuts-without a hole! You will be surprised how easy it is to fry up these little sugar rolls; you may never go back to store bought donuts again 😉 The recipe below makes about 12 medium sized donuts. Flavor variations could be achieved by mixing in vanilla or lemon zest for example.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour, additional for dusting
- 1/4th cup water
- 1/4th cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 pack of dry yeast
- 5 tbsp sugar, additional for dusting
- Pinch of salt
- Oil for deep frying
Steps
Mix yeast in 1/4th cup warm water with 1/2 tbsp sugar. Leave aside for few minutes until frothy.
In a large bowl, beat 1 egg with 4-5 tbsp of sugar. This is enough to make the donuts slightly sweet, but not overwhelming.
Add in a pinch of salt, yeast mixture and 1/4th cup warm milk. Mix vigorously.
Fold in flour little at a time with a wooden spoon until a sticky dough begins to form.
Leave aside for about an hour and let the dough rise.
Knead the risen dough, dusting with flour as needed until it can be handled without sticking.
Roll the dough to 1 inch thickness. Using a cookie cutter or a glass cut medium sized rounds. Leave aside for another 15 mins.
Heat oil in a heavy pan. Carefully slide each round into the hot oil. Each round should puff up, fry until golden brown. Make sure to keep the oil to medium heat to avoid burning of the donuts.
Remove the donuts from oil onto a paper tissue so that extra oil is soaked. Roll into sugar and enjoy right away!
